PORTICO Community Church, is a Christian church, incorporated as a registered Canadian not-for-profit charity, affiliated with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada (PAOC), serving the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) with campuses located in Mississauga, Milton and Brampton.
PORTICO’s senior pastor, elected by the official members, reports to the board of elders on vision, direction, ministry and church operations. The senior pastor is empowered and monitored through policy governance for the hiring, management and care of all ministry staff and for the oversight of ministries, facilities and operational matters.

YOUTH MINISTRIES PASTOR
Reporting to the Associate Pastor - GROW, the primary role of the Youth Ministries Pastor is to provide direct oversight for the development of Youth Ministries at PORTICO. Essential to this role is the ability to cast vision, equip and empower volunteer ministry partners, define goals, establish budgets, evaluate processes and procedures and summarize outcomes.
The Youth Ministries Pastor will be directly supervised by the Associate Pastor-GROW. This supervision includes regular planning, supervision and mentoring through development of the programs, assisting in weekly meetings, and mentoring and integration into the PORTICO volunteer community.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
1. Facilitate Spiritual Formation through teaching at Youth services, classes and events at all PORTICO Campuses.
2. Oversee an intentional discipleship process for Youth at all PORTICO Campuses.
3. Lead Junior High and Senior High Ministries at the Mississauga Campus, while empowering Ministry Partners (volunteers) to lead at all PORTICO campuses.
4. Facilitate an apprentice model that reproduces generational leadership within Youth Ministries.
5. Train Leaders and Youth to function effectively in their spiritual gifts.
6. Work with a supervisor to establish specific goals for the growth of Youth Ministries.
7. Cultivate an expression of PORTICO’s Growth Groups within Youth ministries.
8. Establish a missional expression of serving both locally and globally within Youth Ministries.
9. Facilitate in the compliance of Risk Management Guidelines mentioned in our Employee Handbook that covers:
a. Communication with Persons Under the Age of 18.
b. Parental Consent form with Media Waiver for Children & Youth.
10. Plan to Protect Compliance Process:
a. PORTICO Master Plan To Protect Procedure covers action plans for handling non-compliance. If your ministry procedure is different from the Master Plan To Protect Procedure, your ministry’s Plan To Protect Procedure needs to be submitted to the Ops Committee for approval.
b. Document Retention (electronic) of all other Plan to Protect documents relating to annual registration, attendance, visitors, event permission forms, etc.
c. Annual Plan To Protect Refresher training related to your area of ministry needs to be completed by October 31 of each year.
OTHER TASKS INCLUDE:
Sunday duties as assigned.
Carry out roles and fulfill responsibilities related to Emergency Preparedness (PORTICO’s Fire Evacuation plan & Lockdown procedures).
Fulfill requirements to meet PORTICO Ends Dials that allow staff to maintain focus in their designated area of ministry. Dials are set by the Executive Team every year and carried out by all ministry staff.
Carry out responsibilities as part of the Pastor-On-Call weekly schedule.
Work with the Central Support Team to have parental consent forms and media waiver completed for those attending Youth ministries and off-site events.
Adhere to Document & Data Retention procedures for Youth Ministries files and records.
Utilize Salesforce (SFDC), Planning Center (PCO), PORTICO’s LMS, One Drive and Microsoft platforms.
Prepare Bank Deposits for the Safe, as needed.
Submit Incident Reports, as needed.
Prepare Expense Reports, as needed.
Update information for the Website/App/Landing Page for Youth Ministries.
Maintain Storage clean up in Youth Ministries areas.
Follow the Apprenticeship model to recruit and train Ministry Partners within the assigned area of responsibility.
Advocate the consistent adoption of Salesforce CRM.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor or his/her designate.
As a member of PORTICO’s pastoral staff, this role requires that you personally embrace, actively promote and support PORTICO’s mission, vision, core values and Ends within all expressions of the church community. Additionally, you are first and foremost a ministry care provider to our church family. As such, your highest priorities will be to assist in serving our church community in their need for worship, prayer, encouragement, pastoral care, visitation, counsel or through additional expressions of support as requested by the Senior Pastor.
This position is often involved in sensitive situations and the individual may become aware of privileged information requiring sound judgment and discretion. Strict confidentiality must be maintained when dealing with the elder board, pastoral or congregational related issues. A violation of confidentially is grounds for immediate dismissal.
LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
Leadership and/or theological training through an undergraduate or graduate degree program.
Minimum of five (5) years pastoral leadership experience.
A passionate leader who understands the role of an equipping pastor.
Able to be the speaking and teaching pastor, but also passionately committed to apprenticing, equipping, and empowering others to lead in various capacities.
Demonstrated ability to grow this vital ministry in effectiveness and quality.
Spiritual gifts of shepherding, leadership and administration.
Maintain a personal, vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.
- Understands and fulfills the biblical qualifications of leadership found in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 & Titus 1:5-9.
