PORTICO’S MINISTRY OVERVIEW 

PORTICO Community Church, is a Christian church, incorporated as a registered Canadian not-for-profit charity, affiliated with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada (PAOC), serving the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) with campuses located in Mississauga and Milton. 

PORTICO’s senior pastor, elected by the official members, reports to the board of elders on vision, direction, ministry and church operations. The senior pastor is empowered and monitored through policy governance for the hiring, management and care of all ministry staff and for the oversight of ministries, facilities and operational matters.

CUSTODIAN 

The custodian reports to the Facilities Director and is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the building, setting up for events, and performing various other facility-related tasks. 

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY 

1. Building Operations: 

- Open and close the building on time. 

- Set up and tear down for events, ensuring that chairs and tables are arranged according to the diagrams provided. 

- Ensure rooms are ready before scheduled events, including proper room temperature settings. 

2. Cleaning Duties: 

- Perform routine cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, dusting, and mopping. 

- Remove garbage and recycling from all areas of the building. 

- Clean and sanitize washrooms, ensuring paper products are replenished. 

- Shovel snow and apply salt to sidewalks during winter months to ensure safety. 

3. Communication: 

- Answer the custodian phone during duty hours and address any inquiries or issues that arise. 

4. Safety and Security: 

- Ensure all doors are locked after events and at the end of the day. 

- Arm and disarm the building's security system as required. 

- Identify and address any safety hazards promptly. 

5. Assisting Staff and Volunteers: 

- Assist staff members with various tasks as needed

- Coordinate with volunteers for cleaning. 

LEADERSHIP EXPECTATIONS 

As a member of PORTICO’s facilities staff, this role requires that you personally embrace, actively promote and support PORTICO’s mission, vision, core values and Ends within all expressions of the church community. 

This position is often involved in sensitive situations and the individual may become aware of privileged information requiring sound judgment and discretion. Strict confidentiality must be maintained when dealing with the elder board, pastoral or congregational related issues. A violation of confidentially is grounds for immediate dismissal. 

LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Previous experience in custodial work is preferred. 
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and shoveling. 
  • Lift weights up to 50 pounds. 
  • Excellent time management skills and attention to detail. 
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with staff, volunteers, and visitors. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Reliability and punctuality are essential.
