Study Guide: Identity Check

Growth Group Study Guide

Identity Check

POINT 1: Internal threats

POINT 2: External threats

Discussion questions
Choose questions to get your group thinking and create openness:

  1. Begin your discussion with highlights from this Sunday’s sermon? What was something that stood out to you? Share what you learned and how it will impact your life.

  2. In buying clothes, are you a name-brand buyer? A bargain hunter? Is spouse conscious? Is quality conscious? Is style-conscious? Or you care less what others think?

  3. Open your bible and read Colossians 3:1-11

    a. How are we to grow in our spiritual life (vv:1-4)? How does that contrast with the things that don’t lead to growth (see Colossians 2:16-23)?

    b. How is setting your mind and heart on Christ related to what He has already done for us (v:1)? To what He will do for us (v:4)?

  4. How much contrast is there between the “clothes” of earthy nature (vv:5-11) and those of God’s chosen people (vv:12-17)?

  5. How hard it would it seem to take off the first and put on the second?

  6. We get all too used to “earthly nature” clothing. Which aspect of your old nature feels like a comfortable old T-shirt to you now? Why is it difficult to shed or remove?

  7. With what piece of Christ’s wardrobe would you like to replace it? Which aspect of Christ’s character do you need to clothe yourself with, in relation to you husband and wife? Your parents or children? Your employer or employees or co-workers?

  1. Thank God for your identity in Him. Pray that He will remind you of your identity every day.

  2. Pray that God will use our church to be a life-giving community where people can grow in their identity in Christ.

  3. Pray for wisdom for our national leaders and church leaders in this season of “new normal”.

Take 10-15 minutes
