Too many Christians settle for a life where a train pastor hears from God and gives them the message. But did you know that God actually intends for each of us to be firsthand witness to His love and his truth? When God first came to his people on Mount Sinai, he descended on the mountain with smoke and fire, and the mountain shook. Now, Moses had the kind of close relationship with God where he's drawn into that. But the people were afraid. They told Moses, We're happy for you to go out there and report back. The problem with this model is that we missed the depth of what God has for us. Moses comes back with Ten Commandments, which are ten memorable one liners that people can remember as God's Word, but they miss the depth of what God revealed to Moses on the mountain about how these commandments are actually foundational life principles for a thriving society centered on love for God and others. But it's the same with us. The pastor gives us a share of a quote that we share and think on for the week. But if we never go up the mountain into God's presence, we're in danger of missing the depth of the why. Behind the what.
