Does the Bible really say that God helps those who help themselves? No. Nowhere in the Bible is there a verse that says anything like this. The Bible is full of teaching that goes completely opposite to human wisdom and this is one of those examples. In our world, there are all kinds of examples of people who get ahead in life because they make their own breaks. And most of the time there's nothing wrong with trying to get ahead for networking or using your contacts or forcing your way into a system. In our world, there are all kinds of examples of people who get ahead in life because they make their own breaks. And most of the time there's nothing wrong with trying to get ahead for networking or using your contacts or forcing your way into a system. But the wisdom that we see in Proverbs chapter 22 says you can make many plans, but the Lord's purposes will prevail. The reflection question to ask yourself is basically this: are you more interested in the path you can create for yourself or the path that God has for you? If we want God's plan for our lives then the first step should not be, hey, let's network, it should be pause or a reflective prayer and trust that God leads and provides, for all the great purposes that He has for your life.
